The most representative features of the country are red meat and leather. They both characterized and forged Argentine people’s idiosyncrasy. Its red meat is well known for its quality worldwide and is widely consumed in this country by people belonging to different social groups. The different red meat cuts are roasted on a “parrilla” – some sort of grill or barbacue – and are known as “asado”, which is an integral part of the eating habits of Argentine people.
The tanned skin of the cow is known as “cuero” (leather). The origin of the work on leather takes us back to the “gaucho” – an inhabitant of the Pampas – who used it to produce all kinds of clothing and household goods necessary for their everyday life. Throughout the years, the “gauchos” became experts in the carving and decoration of leather. Nowadays, “talabarterías” – stores devoted to the trading of leather goods of all kinds (ranging from boots to saddles) – are well known round the world for their excellent quality products.
